Re: Free Electronic Medical Record

Physicians Rush to Enroll in SynaMed’s “Free EMR for Life” Promotion

NEW YORK, March 20, 2008 — SynaMed, LLC, a leader in award-winning, healthcare technology, is proud to announced an offer to provide free electronic medical record (EMR) technology to physicians across the United States.
The response so far has been tremendous as physicians rush to enroll in SynaMed’s “Free EMR for Life” promotion, which includes Electronic Medical Records, Patient Reporting, Electronic Prescribing, Patient Portal, and Multi-Access Scheduling, usually part of a practice management system, all at no cost for the life of the practice, according to Holly De Muro, SynaMed’s director of operations.
SynaMed’s EMR has been awarded top honors in four categories at the annual TEPR Awards three years running (www.tepr.com). They have also been top rated in Customer Satisfaction by KLAS, an independent monitor of Healthcare IT vendor performance.
The company was created by doctors in New York City without any venture capital, thus having a strict business profit orientation. At the same time, they are here to help their colleagues in this cost-sensitive era. With insurance reimbursements decreasing and administrative paperwork increasing, medical practices are squeezed to produce more with less financial resource.
So, how to provide these valuable services at no cost to practices?
“Through the use of site advertising,” De Muro said. “In return for accepting industry specific ads on the site, practices can take advantage of all the benefits our EMR has to offer.”
Those benefits include: greater efficiency and decreased costs for physicians, decreased administrative costs for Medicare and Medicaid patients and payers, reduced risk of malpractice, and an improved national security and healthcare IT disaster recovery plan.
“SynaMed makes medical record keeping simple, reimbursement attainable and keeps paperwork to a minimum, leaving doctors free to be doctors,” De Muro said, doing so by using a Web browser-based Application Service Provider (ASP) model, where lightweight application and service can be delivered turn-key to medical practices with the reliability of remote access anytime, from anywhere with Internet connection. Physicians will have complete access to medical records, 24/7.
Since the system can be remotely accessed, SynaMed is secured with a 128 bit encryption requiring two passwords, one personal and one shared group password. Their primary data center also houses such companies as NASDAQ, Charles Schwab, JP Morgan Chase, Bristol Myers Squib and Web-MD.
The free, monthly subscription includes system access for unlimited users, system training at no additional cost, system technical support at no additional cost, even 24-hour Internet Technology emergency support. That means no additional costs for maintaining an IT staff.
Physicians who are able to take advantage of SynaMed’s free e-prescription software, E-Rx, get immediate information about their patients’ medication histories, potential drug interactions or allergic reactions, and receive real-time FDA safety alerts, significantly reducing the risk of malpractice. According to Ernst and Young insurance carries, electronic prescribing will reduce medical errors, save lives and save tens of millions of dollars a year in health care costs.
In terms of lab connectivity, SynaMed has established links with 55 labs — including Quest and LabCorp — so that laboratory test requisitions and results are automatically retrieved, reported, and triaged with a lab alert tagging when necessary to the appropriate physician in real-time.
Patient portal allow patients the opportunity to input their demographic information online, and have access to that information should any changes be necessary, such as switching insurance companies, or adding beneficiaries. This saves time in the waiting room, adding convenience for both sides of the front desk.
Compared to other EMR systems, SynaMed decreases hardware, installation, and networking costs. Most other EMR start-up costs are upward of $30,000. Once a practice signs a contract for the product, SynaMed requires no start-up fees. From there, practices can choose optional paid services, such as a one-time data import for between $200 and $300, or the $3,500 initial investment for SynaMed’s Sync-server data storage hybrid. With Sync-Server, a practice can choose to store its data locally, on its own in-office server, which constantly synchronizes with SynaMed’s secure remote servers.
“This means no need to back up data, with no delay in entry from one location to the other, so practices will benefit with increased speed and system response time,” De Muro said. “In case the local office server ever goes down, SynaMed sends the replacement server within days with all the practice’s current data preloaded. In the interim, office staff can access the data from the web without any clinic downtime.”
In addition to a state of the art EMR, SynaMed offers a fully-integrated practice management/patient accounting system (PMS) on a monthly subscription basis, which includes customizable reports, inventory management, electronic scheduling, email, fax services, and automated appointment confirmation calls. It also offers DICOM/PACS for scanning and storing images, a drawing module and documentation management.
SynaMed also operates an out-sourced billing service for as low as 4 percent commission of a practice’s monthly revenue. All billing service clients have real-time access to all their financial information, such as accounts/receivable, receipt, follow-ups, and real time collection efforts on a claim-by-claim basis. These reports are totally customizable to suit any practice.
SynaMed LLC has been known for its Web browser-based ASP model since its inception in 1999. Besides it’s TEPR honors, SynaMed was given first place for Best EMR and Best Practice Management Solution by TETHIC (www.tethic.com). SynaMed’s EMR has also been top-ranked by the AC Group (www.acgroup.org), an independent consulting firm that rates different EMR vendors based on current and future functionality, and received a 5-star rating. SynaMed was also designated by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHITSM) as a nationally certified vender of electronic health record products in April of 2006.
