How Many Monitors Do You Need?

I've recently started using 2 monitors instead of one and have found it increases my productivity remarkably.

Now there's a new gadget for using 3 monitors on a single VGA output (I use one VGA and one DVI for mine).

Windows supports up to 4 monitors(but you have to have 4 video cards). I personally think 2 is plenty for most people and 2 is very beneficial to most people. I think having a third is nice, but doesn't provide nearly the productivity increase that 2 does. It is nice to have 3 when you are working a help desk type atmosphere where a third monitor can face the customer so you can show them something as you work.

The coolest thing I've seen with 4 is a panoramic picture that was cut into 4 pieces and put across the 4 monitors. It was like being in Hawaii. Wait, that's where I was when I saw it.

I'm liking 2 monitors but could also see the benefits of having 3....

The thread was titled how many monitors do you NEED. Not how many do you want.

Plus, I have a KVM behind one of mine so I can run my linux box with that monitor too.

I have to use four 32 inch Dell Monitors because there are simply to many sites and functions I need open and in doing so I can beat the hassle factor of opening closing and minimizing windows etc. I use one for my website and DHL. One is used for my Speech recognition Forum and another for other forums and sites of interest. The fourth is for E-mails and Go To Meeting for online tech support.

This just shows that you've probably never used it before. Or possibly that you don't do a job that uses the computer much like an EMR.

I currentlly use 2 and ever since i started using the second I have definatly seen an increase in productivity.It just gives you more desktop real estate to play with
