Toshiba Tablet PC

Toshiba's Digital Products Division has announced the Portege M405-S8003, a thin and light Tablet PC sold at major consumer electronics stores nationwide. Featuring business-level performance and mobility, the Portege M405-S8003 weighs approximately 4.5 pounds and is designed for consumers who require on-demand business applications and all the functionality of a notebook computer with the benefits of digital pen-based input and control.

The Portege M405-S8003 features the new Intel Core Duo processor T2400 that reduces power consumption while boosting overall performance from graphics to wireless capabilities. The Portege M405-S8003 also features EasyGuard technology, a series of hardware and software enhancements designed to help boost mobile security, system integrity, network connectivity and overall ease-of-use.

The Portege M405-S8003 offers a bright, 12.1-inch XGA diagonal display that easily switches into "slate" mode so users can stay productive at their desk, standing, in a meeting or lounging at home. With the Portege M405-S8003, users can use the mouse, keyboard, digital-ink-enabled pen or their voice to manipulate information and maximize productivity.

Toshiba's exclusive EasyGuard technology consists of four elements with the following feature highlights:

Protect & Fix:
- Shock-absorbing materials to help safeguard critical components such as the hard drive and LCD display;
- the Toshiba Hard Disk Drive Protection System to help safeguard the Tablet PC's hard drive against possible damage resulting from accidental dropping, turbulence, impact or vibration;
- enhanced, spill-resistant keyboard that affords users time to save work and shut down the system. If an accident should occur, this feature will help prevent the loss of data;

Secure:
- a Trusted Platform Module, an embedded security chipset that stores encryption keys, passwords and user credentials to ensure that data cannot be accessed or seen by anyone but an authorized user;
- integrated biometric fingerprint reader with single sign-on functionality;

Connect:
- a complete suite of communication technologies, including Gigabit Ethernet, V.92 modem and the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (802.11 a/b/g);
- proprietary technologies such as Toshiba's recently upgraded ConfigFree, a graphic connectivity management utility, and the company's patented Diversity Antenna, designed to deliver superior, wireless signal reception
through the integration of strategically placed Bluetooth technology and dual-band Wi-Fi antennas in the notebook's display;

Optimize:
- proprietary Toshiba Power Saver that maximizes battery life;
- Toshiba's Presentation button, a one-touch button to display the screen's image onto an LCD projector or external monitor easily;
- and wireless on/off switch, enabling and disabling the integrated wireless LAN (Wi-Fi).

The Portege M405-S8003 comes with a six-cell battery for up to five hours of computing time. Toshiba also equipped the Portege M405-S8003 with a swappable Ultra SlimBay for a CD-RW/DVD, DVD SuperMulti optical drives or a second hard drive for onboard data backup.
