Can I avoid a smartphone?

My HP iPAQ 2795 crashes often..so I'd like a new PDA. Major uses are outlook and epocrates rx. pro. I'd also really like a vibrating alarm instead of the loud chiming..I don't like sitting in a conference and having the bells go off to tell me to go to an appointment. Palm T/X looks like a reasonable choice..but its so old my fear is when I buy it, the new one will come out the next day. Any ideas? Thanks
Dave
