answering service can't use iPhone ???

Do any of you have iPhones that you use when you are on call?

If so, do you have to receive an actual phone call, or can you get text messages.

I am dealing with an answering service whose manager tells me "we can only text to Verizon phones, because they are the only ones that still have a modem interface." Apparently this answering service uses software from "Intelco" (?).

So, do any of you have a better iPhone experience when you are on call than to be TELEPHONED by an answering service operator?

This is NOT what I envisioned when I got the iPhone . . .

How are you using and iPhone with Verizon service? That's probably your problem.

Re: answering service can't use iPhone ???

I am NOT using Verizon service: I use AT&T, the only currently available airtime provider for unchopped unhacked iPhones in the U.S.A.

My answering service, using ancient, outmoded software, claims to me that "they can only send messages to Verizon" phones.

I do not believe them.

That is why I am trying to discover whether other physicians who have iPhones have answering services clever enough to send messages directly to their iPhones. If I learn that there are such physicians, then I hope to ask them questions, and perhaps even talk to their answering service personnel about methods used.

Sorry if my original posting seemed unclear to you.

Re: answering service can't use iPhone ???

This absolutely not true! Any cell phone can receive emails!

For iPhones, look at this page: email for iPhones

It seems you can even use gmail, yahoo mail, aol, etc.
If you use a different kind of cell phone, refer to this article.
Cell Phone Providers

Sorry about your troubles with your current answering service.
Maybe you could point them in the direction of those two articles.
